The 10 Best FREE APPs for Survivalists

You probably view a lot of survivalist websites, but when was the last time you checked an APP store to see what they offer for us survivalists? So after evaluating Survival APP after Survival APP after Survival APP on both my iPad and Google Nexus I have put together a list of the top 10 Survival APPs available for us. Some are predictable, and some just might be thought provoking.

1. SAS Survival Guide App – Must have!

Award-winning Survival APP created by former special air service soldier and instructor John Wiseman. The Survival APP features videos, photo galleries, his bestselling book (over 400 pages), checklists, sun compass, a 100+ question quiz and much more. No internet connection is required in order to use this APP. This means the APP will take up a lot of space when downloaded but can be used anywhere at any time.

It has a huge amount of well-written info on everything from making camps and fires to foraging and coping in extreme conditions. 2. First Aid By American Red Cross App

When was the last time you brushed up on basic first aid? This APP is structured in a manner that it can be used in emergency situations. It even has example videos in addition to the step-by-step instructions. This is a must download for everyone. There is even a ‘prepare’ icon that seems to be designed with preppers in mind. This APP is excellent for brushing up on your skills just in case an emergency situation ever arises.

3. Smart Compass App
Spyglass is the most similar for Apple –

A compass is a must for any trek in the wilderness, and a smartphone compass can do things that a traditional model couldn’t dream of. Smart Compass has an augmented reality display which makes it incredibly intuitive to follow. When you hold your phone or tablet up to the horizon, a real-time video from the camera is overlaid with a compass heading. This enables you to set off in the direction of a landmark without having to constantly re-check your orientation. It’s simple, very effective, and free.




4. Google Earth App

It works just like the PC version except you have GPS which checks your location and can help you get out of binds. Zoom out of your current location and look for the nearest road to head to, look for the nearest sources of water, or developed trails – this APP does it all.

This APP can be very useful in a situation where there is civil unrest or mass confusion. I love the ‘Nearby’ button to find frequencies near your current location using GPS. Whether it is a SHTF situation or trying to get out of NOLA, this APP is highly recommended.

7. ViewRanger GPS – Trails & Maps App

There is a reason why this APP has tens of thousands of downloads. One look at its interface and you will understand why. You can find your GPS mapped location even without an internet connection, and then view the terrain to help you find the best routes. It has over 10,000 route guides and trails, plus it is integrated with OpenStreetMap, OpenCycleMap (street and terrain mapping) and Bing Aerial Imagery.

This Prepper APP is a great tool that will help you better track and view the progress of your preps with a focus on food storage. Enter your food stockpile, and then use the Prepper APP to categorize your stock. Log the amount, location, shelf life, and then get alerted to food that is expiring. The Prepper APP also provides suggestions regarding the nutritional values of your stockpile after you have entered all your preps.
